Gerald W. McGuire - Choir Director
Gerald has been involved in music ministry since
1981, having served as Director of Church Music at Bemis United Methodist
Church for 21 years. He
joined the family of Malesus UMC as Choir Director in June of 2002. A former
high school band director, Gerald worked as manager and instrument repair
technician for Wallick Music Co. of Jackson for 28 years. When the store
closed in 2006 he opened a repair shop, McGuire Band Instrument Service.
An accomplished clarinetist and
saxophonist, he played with the Jackson Symphony Orchestra for more than 20
years, and currently plays with the Jackson
Area Community Concert Band, directed the Jackson Area Community Jazz Band
from 1996 - 2008, has played in the pit orchestra for numerous theatrical musical productions,
and served as Musical Director for the Jackson Theater Guild's production of Evita.
He will often use his instrumental abilities to enhance the Sunday morning
worship service utilizing the tenor sax, soprano sax, or clarinet.
Gerald is a native of Paris, TN, having graduated
from E.W. Grove High School. He received a Bachelor of Music Education degree
from nearby Murray State University in Murray, KY. where he became a member
of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, professional music fraternity. He is a life-long
Methodist, having attended Calvary United Methodist Church in Paris until
moving to Jackson.
Gerald has been married to Jennifer
since graduating from college, and they have two grown daughters.
